Consumers in Taiwan were more confident in the equity market, family financial conditions, the labor market and general economic performance in February, according to a survey released on Monday.

The survey, released by Taiwan's Central University, found that the consumer sentiment index for stock investment opportunities for the next six months improved by 5 points from the previous month to 97.3 points in February.

The Consumer Confidence Index, which measures overall consumer sentiment, rose 1.21 points to reach 89.44 points in February.

Five of the survey's sub-indices on consumer sentiment for stock investments, family financial conditions, prices, the labor market and the business climate rose. The sentiment about purchase timing for durable goods was the only sub-index that slipped in February.

The index was compiled based on the results of telephone interviews conducted between Feb. 19 and 23 with a total of 2,430 people over the age of 20.
