Online pre-orders for Motorola Mobility's Moto X have exceeded 1.8 million in China as of Wednesday, only a few days after the product's introduction on the market, news portal sina.com.cn reported Wednesday.

The 5.2-inch phone, priced as low as 2,999 yuan ($479.84), was unveiled on January 26 by Motorola Mobility, as part of a trio of Android handsets that also includes the Moto X Pro and the Moto G.

With the phone brand's return to China's smartphone market, Chinese PC giant Lenovo Group, which currently owns Motorola Mobility, is looking to expand to the higher end of the market that remains dominated by the likes of Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics.
