China's hotel industry needs to innovate in order to escape its current plight, a senior tourism official said Tuesday.

The country's hotels are potentially facing major losses due to a slowing economy, anti-corruption campaigns, higher operation costs and shrinking business consumption, said Wu Wenxue, deputy head of China National Tourism Administration.

The key to solving the problem is stronger management, more product varieties, better human resource training and higher level of service quality, he said.
