Food and beverage maker Ting Hsin International Group said on Thursday it is demanding compensation of 100 million yuan ($16.3 million) from Shanghai-based newspaper China Business News (CBN) and its reporter Hu Junhua, after Hu wrote a report that Ting Hsin claimed has caused a loss to its business reputation.

In Hu's report that was published September 15 on yicai.com, CBN's website, it said Ting Hsin had confirmed that gutter oil had been used in one of its noodle products sold in Taiwan.

The report misled consumers and had a serious negative effect on Ting Hsin, but CBN failed to make corrections despite several negotiations with Ting Hsin, Ting Hsin said in a statement, noting that it has decided to resort to legal means.

Yicai.com responded on late Thursday that the report was objective and well-grounded. It also said that it reserves the right to take legal action.
