'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' rules China's box office

American blockbuster "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" earned 287 million yuan (about $46.5 million) to rule China's box office in the week ending Aug 31.

"The Four 3," a domestic martial arts action sequel by Hong Kong director Gordon Chan, came in second by grossing 83 million yuan in the week, according to China Film News on Wednesday.

Not far behind was American blockbuster sequel "How to Train Your Dragon 2," which earned 74 million yuan.

"Temporary Family," a domestic romance starring Hong Kong actor Nick Cheung, pulled in 43 million yuan in the week to take the fourth spot.

Rounding out the top five list was "Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants," an adventure jointly produced by France and Belgium, which grossed 14.8 million yuan in the week.
