The Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park and China's heavyweight steel maker Shougang Group inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Beijing on Aug. 12, Qianlong.com reported.

Zhongguancun, known as China's "Silicon Valley," will join hands with Shougang to build a platform to boost the development of strategic emerging industries. Zhongguancun will make full use of Shougang's advantageous resources, including the iron and steel industry, environmental industry, equipment and auto parts manufacturing, building and the real estate and production-oriented service industry.

The plan will foster a platform for Zhongguancun-based enterprises to integrate new technology and products into their sustainable development. Shougang will promote the industrialization of the latest innovations from Zhongguancun, such as seawater desalination, biomass energy technologies, intelligent robots and high-end auto parts.

It has been agreed that Zhongguancun will help Shougang to develop its disused factory in Beijing's Shijingshan District into a special industrial base focusing on big data, smart homes, energy conservation and environmental protection. Efforts will be exerted to attract leading businesses and industrial technology companies from home and abroad to settle there.

Against the backdrop of the integrated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Zhongguancun will help Shougang's industrial parks in Beijing and Caofeidian, Hebei Province to form a sound industrial layout. In the short term, the two parties will focus on big data cooperations, aiming to develop Shougang's industrial parks in Beijing and Caofeidian into an important base for the big data industry in the region. The two will also establish industrial funds to support the development of emerging industries in the region.
