Local electronics marker Xiaomi Corp has sold more than 26 million smartphones in the first six months of this year, a year-on-year jump of 271 percent, company CEO Lei Jun said in a Weibo post on Wednesday.

The amount is higher than Xiaomi's full-year shipment in 2013, a period during which the Beijing-based company sold less than 19 million phones.

Xiaomi's January-June sales also more than doubled compared to a year ago, reaching 33 billion yuan ($5 billion), according to Lei.

Earlier this year, Xiaomi pledged to sell 60 million smartphones in 2014.

Xiaomi, a maker of smartphones, tablets and televisions, took nearly 10 percent of the share in China's smartphone market by the end of the first quarter, according to research firm Analysys International.

It is the fifth-largest smartphone vendor in the country, after Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, Lenovo Group Ltd, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and Shenzhen-based low-end smartphone maker Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific Co Ltd.
