A total of 82 outlets of seven chain pharmacies in Shanghai have been authorized to sell infant formula.

The sale of infant formulas at these drug stores is being strictly monitored to ensure safety. This includes tight supervision of inventory at all outlets approved to sell infant formulas.

China's legislative body will begin reviewing the latest draft of the Food Safety Law this week as the government continues to tackle rampant food safety issues.

The draft states that contract manufacturers will be banned from producing infant formulas on behalf of other brands. The draft also stipulates that infant formula producers should have strict quality controls in place. This includes everything from the import of raw materials to the delivery of infant formulas.
