Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday met with his Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali in Shanghai, pledging to support more Chinese investment in Bangladesh.

Wang congratulated Bangladesh on its new membership of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and noted that Bangladesh is an important partner for China in south Asia and the Indian Ocean region.

China treasures traditional friendship with Bangladesh and highly values the progress of bilateral ties, Wang said, adding that China is willing to work with Bangladesh to maintain high-level engagement and upgrade bilateral relationship.

"China will encourage more enterprises to invest in Bangladesh, support them to carry out pragmatic cooperation in various sectors and make joint efforts in building the economic corridor among Bangladesh, China, India and Burma," Wang said.

Ali voiced hope to cooperate with China in various fields, including industry, economy and trade, investment, high-tech and personnel training, and play a positive role in promoting the economic corridor construction.
