Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform said Wednesday that it plans to raise residential water tariffs by 0.95-1 yuan ($0.15-0.16) per cubic meter from the current level of 4 yuan per cubic meter.

The current price has been adopted since 2009. The increased income from the price hike will be used to cover the water supplier's operation costs, the commission said.

A public hearing on the water price adjustment will be held on April 17.
