Chinese consumers report the highest level of confidence in the world in using payment cards on a mobile device, a report from Nielsen showed on Wednesday.

The survey shows that more than 70 percent of Chinese respondents feel comfortable shopping online and using a payment card on either a smartphone or tablet device as long as their personal information is protected.

Nearly one-fifth are more hesitant, saying they might use their credit or debit cards for online payment, and one-fourth would not use their cards on either a smartphone or tablet.

Nielsen reports found that 22 percent of Chinese respondents already use electronic payments as their second most preferred payment vehicle, exceeding the global average of 14 percent.

The Nielsen Global Survey of Saving and Investment Strategies was conducted between Aug 14 and Sept 6, 2013, and polled more than 30,000 consumers in 60 countries throughout Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and North America.
