China's housing regulator is compiling a list to monitor housing prices in key cities next year, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, the weekly China Business newspaper reported Saturday.

According to the report, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development will require the four cities to continue to strictly implement housing price control policies in 2014. This is in contrast to an earlier media report in which the head of the housing regulatory in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province vowed that the city will gradually cancel interventionist policies on housing purchasing and prices.

The report also said that ministry officials have talked with top officials from cities which saw housing prices rise by more than 10 percent year-on-year growth in 2013.
