HK customs seize smuggled goods

Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department said Tuesday that its officers have seized smuggled goods worth 740,000 HK dollars (95,360.82 U.S. dollars) on Lantau Island.

On Monday evening, customs officers found nine men moving goods from a lorry onto a speedboat at the seashore of Sea Point Road near Sze Pak Wan on Lantau Island.

The suspects fled in the speedboat when the officers took action. The officers seized 60 cartons of goods, including 131 kg of agilawood, 220 kg of uncut crystal, 9 kg of birds' nests, and 8,500 used mobile phones and parts. (1 U.S. dollar = 7.76 HK dollars)
