988 companies registered in Macao in Q1

A total of 988 new companies have been registered in Macao in the first quarter of this year, increasing by 12.1 percent over 2012, according to figures released on Tuesday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

From January to March, registered capital value of the new companies dropped by 22.4 percent to 154 million patacas (19.27 million U.S. dollars), with capital from Macao, the Chinese mainland and Portugal totaling 70 million patacas (8.76 million U. S. dollars), 36 million patacas (4.5 million U.S. dollars) and 25 million patacas (3.13 million U.S. dollars) respectively, the figures indicated.

In the first quarter of 2013, there were 129 companies in dissolution and the value of registered capital mounted to 188 million patacas (23.52 million U.S. dollars), of which registered capital of 56 Wholesale and Retail companies in dissolution accounted for 29.7 percent, according to the DSEC.

At the end of the first quarter of 2013, number of registered companies totaled 40,647, an increase of 3,220 from a year earlier.
