China Telecom, the smallest of the country's three telecom carriers, announced a reduction in its international roaming fees starting from Wednesday, amid ever-intensifying rivalry between the telcos.

The latest roaming fee cut involves a number of popular overseas destinations including the US, the UK, France, Germany, Australia and Japan, and the average reduction rates exceeded 50 percent, according to China Telecom.

At the beginning of February, China Mobile, the country's biggest telco, also cut its international roaming charges involving a number of countries and regions, in the hope of maintaining its cachet amid competition.
