Cargo slows in February

2013-03-27 14:33 Global Times     Web Editor: qindexing comment

Cargo throughput in domestic ports with capacities of 10 million tons and above grew 2.9 percent year-on-year in February, slower than January's 17.5 percent growth rate, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) revealed Tuesday.

The MOT attributed the slower growth to fewer working days in February this year, rather than to China's foreign trade.

Data released by the General Administration of Customs on March 8 indicated that foreign trade volume in February recorded a 13.5 percent increase year-on-year.

On the whole, the domestic port industry has made a good start in 2013, said the MOT in a statement posted on its website.
