Discussion of China's Greenland investment "beyond reality"

2013-03-15 20:53 Xinhua     Web Editor: Sun Tian comment

A Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Friday that discussion of China's investment in Greenland "has gone far beyond reality."

"To my knowledge, no Chinese enterprises have been granted oil, gas or mining licenses," spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing.

"There are no Chinese workers entering Greenland," she continued, adding that a single Chinese company is in the early stages of joining an investment project in Greenland.

Reports indicating that Chinese companies have entered Greenland are "coming out of nowhere," she said.

Hua said Denmark is believed to be China's most convenient trade partner in Europe, as china and Denmark have maintained normal trade links.

"We appreciate the openness of the Danish central government and the Greenland government in cooperating with foreign enterprises," she said.

China will support enterprises from both sides in carrying out mutually beneficial cooperation, she said.

Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Danish kingdom. A debate regarding the exploration of untapped resources on the island has dominated recent local elections.
