HK's port cargo throughput down 6% in Q4

In the fourth quarter of 2012, Hong Kong's total port cargo throughput decreased by 6 percent compared with a year earlier to 66.3 million tons, according to the city's Census and Statistics Department released Friday.

Within this total, inward and outward port cargo decreased by 4 percent and 9 percent to 37.6 million tons and 28.7 million tons respectively, the department said.

For 2012 as a whole, total port cargo throughput decreased by 3 percent compared with a year earlier to 269.3 million tons. Within this total, inward and outward port cargo dropped by 2 percent and 4 percent to 154.7 million tons and 114.6 million tons respectively.

On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, total port cargo throughput decreased by 5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012. Within this total, inward and outward port cargo dropped by 7 percent and 2 percent respectively.
