Chinese mainland to review anti-dumping measures

The Chinese mainland will launch a review of anti-dumping measures against methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) imported from Japan and Taiwan starting on Wednesday, the Ministry of Commerce announced in an online statement.

The decision came after the ministry received applications from Chinese mainland producers to ask for maintaining existing anti-dumping measures on MEK imports. These measures were due to be terminated on Thursday.

The Chinese mainland started to levy tariffs ranging from 9.6 percent to 66.45 percent on MEK imported from Japan, Taiwan and Singapore for five years on Nov. 22, 2007, after finding that the imports had brought losses to local manufacturers.

The statement said the MOC will announce the results of its review before Nov. 21, 2013.

MEK is a solvent widely used in making paints, dyes and lubricants.
