New leadership model, driver of economic growth

A leader should act more like a coach to unleash the best of each individual in a globalized world, said a mentor of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2012, as he gave his insight on the new leadership model on Tuesday.

Leadership has changed tremendously given so many causes like globalization, said Jeffrey Joerres, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Manpower Group, at the press conference of the ongoing Summer Davos Forum.

Joerres noted that when comparing some of the challenges the leaders face now with what they faced some five years ago, it's really come down to new models of leadership.

"Historically command and control work very well. But given so many different ways in which work is being done, from virtual work to team work, and accomplished with businesses connected all over the world, you have to lead differently," said Joerres.

"To be a leader, you have to draw out the best and unleash the potential of each individual in an environment that is so much complex," Joerres stressed, "It's synonymous with being a coach, instead of a manager."

"We believe that in the emerging market like China, one of the best ways to drive economic growth is to be able to have good leadership," Joerres highlighted.

Themed "Creating the Future Economy", the three-day forum, featuring interactive programs on issues including the euro crisis, China's future economy and global food security, has attracted some 2,000 participants from 86 countries and regions.
