Sinopec Group invests 204 mln yuan in Tibet Baingoin

China Petrochemical Corp. has invested 204 million yuan (32.38 million U.S. dollars) in Baingoin county over the past decade in a bid to boost its economic development.

The oil giant, the country's largest oil refiner, has also sent 12 cadres to Tibet and it build 92 projects during the last ten years.

Located at an altitude of 4,745 meters above sea level, Baingoin is one of the poorest counties in Nagqu prefecture in Tibet autonomous region.

Due to investment by state-owned enterprises and local governments, Baingoin's gross domestic product rose to 352 million yuan in 2011, up 161 percent from ten years earlier.

The county's fiscal revenues jumped to 7.05 million yuan, an increase of 370 percent from 2002. Local herders had a per capita income of 4,190.37 yuan last year, up 188.9 percent from ten years ago.
