23rd Macao Arts Festival kicks off

The Beijing Opera show Su Wu of the Han Dynasty was staged on Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium Tuesday night, lifting the curtains of the 23rd Macao Arts Festival.

Directed by play writer Gao Munkun and featuring celebrated Xi School performer Gao Jianguo as lead actor, Su Wu of the Han Dynasty re-interprets the original story, giving it new life and a novel perspective.

With more than 130 performances staged by artists from various countries and regions, the 23rd Macao Arts Festival will last 32 days, said Ung Vai Meng, the director of Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on the opening ceremony.

The Festival, organized by Cultural Affairs Bureau, will bring together theatre, traditional and modern dance, Chinese and Western music and multimedia and visual arts by artists from Macao, Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Portugal, Spain ,the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the United States and Argentina, according to the Bureau.
