Milk powders get dearer

2012-04-09 09:36 Global Times     Web Editor: Zhang Chan comment

Major milk powder producers have increased wholesale and retail prices of their respective products by 5 to 13 percent recently, Nanfang Daily reported Sunday, citing unnamed industry sources.

The brands that have hiked the prices in response to cost pressures are Shengyuan, International Inc, Nestlé SA and Mead Johnson Nutrition, the news report said. Nestlé's China subsidiary confirmed that they had planned to increase the price by 5 percent in April, the report said.

Women were seen snatching baby milk powders in supermarkets Sunday, the report said.
