The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Thursday approved a proposal for the second phase of the Hainan Meilan International Airport expansion project in Haikou, Hainan Province.
The proposal was based on a plan to expand the airport to serve 30 million passengers and handle 300,000 tons of cargo and mail by 2020. It included the building of a 3,600-meter runway and a parking apron with enough space for 45 aircraft.
