Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that the U.S. decision to disinvite China to participate in the Pacific Rim military drill is unconstructive.
Speaking at a press conference with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after their meeting, Wang said the decision of the U.S. Department of Defense is unadvised, and not conducive to enhancing mutual understanding and trust between the two countries.
The United States has revoked an invitation to China to the 2018 Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC). The world's largest joint naval exercise is hosted by the U.S. and held every two years.
The June-August 2018 exercises would have been the third consecutive time The People's Liberation Army Navy would have attended the exercises.
