China's participation in the peace talks on the Korean Peninsula has helped stabilize the situation there, South Korea's presidential Blue House said Thursday.

Kim Eui-kyeom, spokesman for South Korean President Moon Jae-in, said in a statement that the Blue House hailed the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the country's top leader.

The DPRK leader visited China from Sunday to Wednesday and held talks with Xi in Beijing.

The spokesman said the meeting held significant meaning for Kim, who stated his willingness to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and hold inter-Korean and DPRK-U.S. summits.

The spokesman added that the upcoming summits are expected to be a turning point toward permanent denuclearization and bringing a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

South Korea and the DPRK agreed to hold their third summit meeting in late April at Peace House, a South Korean building in the truce village of Panmunjom. U.S. President Donald Trump said he will meet the DPRK leader by May.
