China has made its first technical standard for laser televisions, the Economic Daily reported Thursday.

The standard makes requirements on function, testing and terminology, according to the newspaper.

The standard was drafted by the China Electronics Standardization Institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, and TV manufacturer Hisense.

Laser television sales in China rose 153 percent to 2.2 billion yuan (about 350 million U.S. dollars) in 2017, in contrast to a softening television market in general, according to home appliance market monitor All View Cloud (AVC).

Laser televisions show more colorful and brighter images, and are more durable and energy-efficient than traditional televisions.

Television sales fell 6.6 percent last year, the biggest decrease since 2003, AVC data showed.

The market watcher attributed the drop to spillover from a tighter property market, rising component costs and the popularity of other gadgets with similar functions such as mobile phones.

However, fast growth was recorded for big-screen televisions, smart televisions and laser televisions, according to AVC.
