Beijing authorities on Tuesday shut down an illegal social organization which was found to be holding activities without official authorization.

The National Justice Charity Alliance was officially shut down by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs as it had not received official certification from civil affairs departments.

Established on February 8, 2017, the alliance had illegally posted information on meetings claiming to be a social organization. On October 11, 2017, the organization was found putting up banners and flags bearing its name during a meeting at the Liwu Hotel in Beijing. The organization had four presidents in various posts.

The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs will continue to crack down on illegal social organizations and inspect venues where these organizations convene in 2018.

The bureau will mainly target illegal organizations that violate the capital's stability and management orders, and claim to promote themes such as "Belt and Road," "military-civilian integration," and "coordination development for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region."

Several cases of fake social organizations have been uncovered over the years.

China had about 702,000 social organizations as of the end of 2016, according to data released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Registered social organizations can be found on chinanpo.gov.cn or bjmjzz.bjmzj.gov.cn. The public can dial 96156 to report illegal social organizations, according to the Bureau of Civil Affairs in Beijing.
