A Chinese daredevil who had gained more than 1 million followers on social media for his heart-stopping selfies while scaling skyscrapers has fallen to his death, media confirmed.

Wu Yongning, 26, posted what would be his last video November 8 from a 54-story tower in Huayuan Center, Changsha, Hunan Province.

His Sina Weibo account Jixian - Yongning ("Extreme Yongning") went silent afterward, raising suspicions online that he had met his demise.

Wu's family confirmed those suspicions to Jiefang Daily on Friday.

A martial artist and highwire walker, Wu earned nearly 1 million subscribers across platforms in October after releasing video of him scaling the new Changsha IFS Complex - the city's tallest building.

His social media updates ended on November 8.

That silence was finally broken Wednesday in a post by one of Wu's fellow climbers.

The post detailed Wu's hard upbringing, comforted his fans and requested that "haters not mock him anymore."

According to family members, Wu had been trying to monetize his Internet fame in order to care for his parents.

His family only found out about his stunts after an uncle saw one of Wu's viral videos.
