Total prize money reached over 2 million yuan ($300,600) for the second China Youth E-Sports Competition, which opened Wednesday at an e-sports summit in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province.

The event this year includes King of Glory and League-Legends, two popular online games in China, the report said.

The Internet and Video Centerof the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League - the host of the event – also hosted the first event last year in the city.

Over 50,000 contestants participated last year, and over 500,000 people followed the game closely, the report says.

Internet and Video Center officials also announced in September that future events will be based in Wuhan, which would make the city the center of the country's booming e-sports industry, according to the report.
