More than 2,000 people have been relocated to temporary shelters after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit Nyingchi in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on Saturday.
According to the city government of Nyingchi, 505 tents have been set up in 49 resettlement points, with enough moisture-proof pads, quilts, flashlights and emergency lamps for quake-affected people.
Rescuers also cleared 162 road blockages and restored 53 telecommunication lines.
More than 300 aftershocks have been detected, affecting over 12,000 people in six counties and districts. About 3,000 buildings, including 24 offices, seven police stations, nine health centers, 25 schools and several temples suffered damages.
According to the Tibetan calendar, Sunday is the first day of the Kongpo New Year in the Nyingchi area. Thanks to timely rescue efforts, the celebration among locals went smoothly as planned.
