5.5-magnitude earthquake hits southeastern S Korea

An earthquake of 5.5-magnitude struck an area in southeastern South Korea, the country's meteorological agency said Wednesday.

The tremor occurred in an area six km north of the southeastern coastal city of Pohang in North Gyeongsang province at about 2:29 p.m. local time (0529 GMT), according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

The epicenter was initially determined to be at 36.10 degrees north latitude and 129.37 degrees east longitude.
