President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump held an expanded bilateral meeting in Beijing on Thursday, after a welcome ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People.[Special coverage]

Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon to start his first state visit to China since becoming president.

After Trump's arrival, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan invited President Trump and his wife Melania Trump to visit the Palace Museum, or the Forbidden City, in Beijing. Trump later tweeted that he had an "unforgettable experience" during the visit.
