Beijing is building its sub-center in Tongzhou District into a demonstration zone for green travel, as a total of 1,895 charging piles will be set up to create a 900-meter charging circle (charging service available within 900 meters) during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period.

In the underground parking lot of the administrative area, parts of the charging pile installation work have been completed, and electricians are debugging the facilities.

Liu Yang, deputy sales director of Tongzhou's power supply company of State Grid Corporation of China, said 1,615 charging piles will be installed in the underground parking area, covering 25 percent of the total parking spaces. Among them, 212 are direct current (DC) charging piles and 1,403 are alternating current (AC) charging piles.

The AC charging piles are equipped with retractable cables. The size of DC charging piles is only 20 percent of the traditional AC charging piles.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Tongzhou District plans to establish a 2-kilometer charging circle, and Tongzhou's key areas and its townships will see a 900-meter charging circle.
