Students at a local school in Southwest China's Sichuan Province are enjoying "smart canteens," whereby with a smart wristband, they can purchase meals with only a swipe.
Students at Tianfu No.7 High School in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, can now enjoy a speedy lunch, for meal bills can be settled with the quick scanning of a smart wristband, Chengdu Economic Daily reported Wednesday.
The junior high students only have to wait a minute to pay for their dishes, a video in the report illustrated.
"You choose your dish, then you swipe your wristband on the machine," a student said.
The magic works together with specially-made trays, which have chips installed to help calculate lunch prices, according to a school employee surnamed Cai.
"Students put their trays on the counter and the price comes up," Cai explained, "and then with a quick swipe, they are all set."
Each transaction only takes around one second, thus saving a lot of time, Cai added.
The unique wristband, is not only used to pay for meals, but used to help students track their diets too by calculating their nutrition levels.
Its purpose also goes beyond the canteen. "It's a watch, a pedometer and a class scheduler," Cai said. "Swipe it in your classroom to get timetables if you forget your schedule."
