Former Chongqing vice mayors punished for disciplinary violations

Former vice mayors of Chongqing Municipal He Ting and Mu Huaping have been punished for serious disciplinary violations, the discipline arm of the Communist Party of China (CPC) announced Monday.

He, also former head of the public security bureau of Chongqing, was found to have long engaged in "superstitious activities" and resisted investigation, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said in a statement.[Special coverage]

He also squandered public assets, visited private clubs, frequented banquets given by the owners of private enterprises, took advantage of his position to seek benefit for his relatives' businesses, and interfered with judicial activities, the CCDI said.

He has been given penalties including being stripped of CPC membership and removal from his administrative post, it said, adding all his illegal gains will be confiscated.

Mu was also punished for severe neglect of duty in decision-making for major projects, and failing to report his personal information in accordance with rules, said the CCDI.

Mu has been given penalties including being placed on probation within the Party for two years and removal from his administrative post. He has been discharged as a delegate to the 18th CPC National Congress.
