China reported less traffic-related deaths and road accidents during the eight-day National Day holiday from Oct. 1 to 8, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The number of deaths from road accidents caused by speeding, drunk driving and fatigue driving plummeted 72.3 percent year on year, while the number of road accidents causing casualties also declined 78 percent, the traffic bureau of the ministry said Sunday. It did not detail the exact number of deaths.

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, 14 traffic accidents with more than three deaths had been reported, which was 12.5 percent less than last year, said the ministry.

Nationwide, traffic flow increased over 15 percent in the holiday, and more than 215,000 police officers were dispatched each day on average, said the ministry.
