Tianjin Quanjian midfielder Zhang Xiuwei has been fined a sum equivalent to six months' salary for drunk driving, the Chinese Super League club said on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Zhang, nicknamed "China's Luka Modric" for similar techniques and hairstyle, was detained last month after crashing a Porsche Boxster into six vehicles while drunk driving on the early morning of August 15.

He was then released on bail but provisionally suspended from all football-related activities by the Chinese Football Association.

"Zhang's behavior damaged the image of Chinese football. He is remorseful for his behavior and willing to bear all the consequences resulting from the incident," Quanjian said in a statement.

Zhang previously had a two-year spell in France, with Lyon's reserve and youth teams, before joining Quanjian in Jan. 2016.
