The incident occurred at around 8:55 a.m. Friday, when a departing Hong Kong Airlines A333 airliner was preparing for take off on Runway 07R at the HKIA.

"Shortly after its commencement of take-off roll, the pilot concerned aborted take off after he noticed that an arriving Air Cargo Global B744 freighter aircraft was crossing the same runway," said a spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government.

"According to the preliminary information, the closest distance of the two aircraft in the incident was over 1 000 meters," spokesperson said.
