A diamond ring worth about 1 million Hong Kong dollars (about 128,205 U.S. dollars) has been found in a park and confirmed to be one of the nine pieces of jewellery stolen in a Tuesday daylight smash-and-grab robbery in Hong Kong, police said Wednesday.

The ring was found by a middle-aged woman in Kowloon Park on Tuesday afternoon, about five hours after three thieves escaped on a motorcycle with 24 million Hong Kong dollars (about 3 million U.S. dollars) worth of jewellery from a jewellery store in Tsim Sha Tsui area, English daily SCMP reported, quoting police sources.

The woman took the ring to a nearby police station after she found it in the park, which is just hundreds of meters away from the store, according to a police source, who believed the ring had been dropped by the culprits.

The police also found two sledgehammers believed to be linked to the robbery in bushes in the same park during a combing at about midday on Wednesday.

Officers are still examining security camera footage in an effort to identify the three men and trace their escape route.
