The Beijing municipal government Monday vowed to provide maximum security to the upcoming 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

At a meeting on Monday, Cai Qi, Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, said that during the 19th Party Congress, all relevant departments should safeguard security "at the highest level, with the strongest organization, and the most effective measures," Beijing Daily reported.

Cai said that the commitment meeting was a pledge by the municipal government and all departments should strengthen ideological work to safeguard political security in Beijing.

Beijing's public security bureau and volunteer representatives also attended the meeting, the report said.

All departments should work together to strengthen coordination, Cai said. He added that volunteers, such as the "Chaoyang masses" volunteer groups, should also be deployed for security work.

The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is slated for October 18 in Beijing. In recent years, the authorities thanked the "Chaoyang masses" for providing tips on illegal activities.

Beijing's Xicheng district has been setting up temporary CPC branches in its network of hutongs since April to manage traditional Beijing alleys.
