China's top sports governing body has sacked the national boxing team after the chaos at the boxing matches of the 13th National Games in Tianjin in August.[Special coverage]

The General Administration of Sport of China announced the decision in a statement on its official website.

The men's boxing tournament, which was held from August 3 to 13, was thrown into chaos after several fighters refused to leave the ring in protest against "unfair judging."

The officiating judges in the said competition have been suspended as well.

The administration has notified affiliated Boxing and Taekwondo Center to conduct thorough investigation to find out the fundamental reasons behind the incident.

The incident exposed the loopholes in the selection, management and supervision of the umpires and the boxers and that the center must be held responsible for that, the announcement said.

An evaluation team will be formed to fully assess the work of the center and referees who failed to comply with the regulations will be suspended.

In the meantime, a new national boxing team will be formed based on a revised selection procedure after the investigation is completed.
