Judges who officiated in the boxing competitions of the 13th Chinese National Games have been suspended over judging controversies, the sport's national governing body announced on Thursday.

"An investigation has been launched and umpires who are found of serious discipline violations will be banned," the Boxing and Taekwondo Center of the State General Administration of Sport said in a statement.

The men's boxing tournament at the 13th National Games, which took place in Tianjin between Aug. 3 and 13, was thrown into chaos after several fighters refused to leave the ring in protest against "unfair judging."

"The incidents exposed the loopholes in the selection, management and supervision of the umpires. The boxing and taekwondo center must be held responsible for that," the administration said earlier in another statement.

The national boxing team has also been dismissed, the Boxing and Taekwondo Center said. A new team will be set up based on a revised selection procedure after the investigation is completed.
