The United States law enforcement handed over an economic suspect, who fled overseas more than three years ago, to Chinese police Wednesday.

The suspect, surnamed Zhou, allegedly falsified documents and swindled loans and acceptance bills worth 354 million yuan (53 million U.S. dollars) from four financial institutions from October 2013 to April 2014, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

Zhou is also suspected of cheating others of more than 31 million yuan in November 2013 by selling them shares in his Guangdong company which was already mortgaged to a bank.

Zhou fled to the United States on May 6, 2014. He was listed on an Interpol red notice and the United States cooperated in his arrest.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the ministry called Zhou's return another major achievement in cooperation between law enforcement agencies from China and the United States in catching fugitives following the return of suspect Zhu on June 1.
