Seeking to get in touch with their roots, a group of 117 students of Chinese extraction from the US, Canada and Ireland participated in a 12-day-long Chinese-themed summer camp, featuring cultural elements such as Peking opera and kung fu.
Hosted by the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts, the purpose of the event is to help and encourage young overseas Chinese to get closer to their roots, as the deputy director of students affairs at the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts explains.
"It's the third edition of this program. We want to give foreign students an enriching and rewarding multi-faceted understanding of Chinese culture, like learning traditional Chinese opera. And if they learn this art form once, it will be part of their whole experience in China and will be unforgettable."

The students also immersed themselves in other traditional activities such as calligraphy, archery and martial arts.
And it's also been an unforgettable journey for the Chinese student volunteers. Zhou Chenhao is one such volunteer who's been on the journey since the very beginning.
"It's the third time I've been a volunteer at this summer camp program. I think it's the perfect opportunity to let more people learn about the beauty of traditional Chinese culture, and the bond we had with the overseas Chinese students was also something precious."
