'Wolf Warrior 2' continues to lead Chinese box office

"Wolf Warrior 2," a domestic action film, topped the Chinese box office in a landslide victory, grossing 2.2 billion yuan (about 321 million U.S. dollars) in the week ending Aug. 6.

"Wolf Warrior 2" tells the story of a former Chinese Special Forces operative's adventures rescuing compatriots and local friends in a war-torn region of Africa occupied by insurgents and mercenaries.

The domestic romance "Once upon a Time" took second place, making 425 million yuan in the week.

"The Founding of an Army," a domestic war film depicting the Chinese revolutionary war, landed in third place for the week, earning 129 million yuan.

Universal's animated film "Despicable Me 3" came in fourth, generating 27 million yuan.

Rounding out the top five was domestic animation "Dear Tutu," which grossed 13 million yuan.
