China's Internet regulator started to solicit public opinion on a draft regulation on key information infrastructure Tuesday.
The draft was published on the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) website and will be open for suggestions until August 10.
According to the draft, the key information infrastructure is that which would jeopardize national security and the public interest in case of malfunction, damage or data leakage.
Operators include government offices, financial organizations, transportation organizations, public communications and information services, research institutions of national defense technology, food and drugs, and news services.
The draft requires operators to ensure the stability and continuity of their infrastructure.
Industry authorities and supervisors shall establish offices to oversee information infrastructure, and technicians should be appropriately qualified, said the draft.
Zuo Xiaodong, vice president of the China Information Security Research Institute said that to protect key information infrastructure is to protect the economy, society, the public interest and national security.
The public can email their opinions to security@cac.gov.cn by August 10.
