Over eight years ago, NASA launched the Kepler space probe to search for Earth-like planets in other solar systems that can support life. However, the mission, unlike others, is run by students.

Two dozen students control the Kepler spacecraft and make sure it is fulfilling its duties from a control room at the University of Colorado's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics.

Students undergo rigorous training and testing to be command controllers, CGTN Hendrik Sybrandy reported after visiting the center. Meanwhile, professional staff are always on stand by.

Despite the fact that it runs out of fuel next year, the spacecraft keeps hunting for life-friendly worlds, guided by a young team on the Earth.
