A man in southwest China's Yunnan province was taken into custody for flying a drone in no-fly zone, said local police on Monday.

According to the public security bureau of provincial capital Kunming, the man surnamed Li was caught on Sunday flying a drone in the no-fly zone at Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center at about 7 p.m.

Police said that his behavior threatened the security of the center.

The drone was seized by police and Li was given five days of detention.

As privately-owned drones have become increasingly popular in China, illegal drone activity has become a problem, especially at airports.

Since February, Kunming Changshui International Airport in Yunnan Province has reported at least six drone disruptions. Local police are investigating. Sichuan and Chongqing airports also reported disruption by unauthorized drones.

China requires civilian drones weighing more than 250 grams to be registered under real names starting from June 1.
