What was thought to be a package left behind by a careless passenger on board a bus turned out to be a heartwarming festive present for Dragon Boat Festival, sent by a local citizen to thank the crew for their hard work.

On Sunday, the first day of the three-day Dragon Boat Festival national holiday, the bus driver in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province, spotted an apparently forgotten package left on the vehicle at the terminal station.

Wondering who the parcel belonged to, the driver, Liang Ping, checked the surveillance footage, which showed an elderly man getting on the bus with the cloth bag, before later disembarking empty handed.

The driver soon recognized that the parcel was deliberately left by the man, after he found a paper note in the bag, along with dozens of Zongzi, a traditional Chinese snack usually eaten on Dragon Boat Festival.

"These are fresh stuffed Zongzi along with some salty duck eggs. I would like to give them to the drivers on the line," read the note by the unidentified passenger, which went on by saying "the line has made travel for local citizens easier, and the drivers are also nice. The Zongzi are just some small gifts given to express our appreciation of your hard work."

While enjoying the delicious homemade Zongzi, Liang told local media that he would also like to extend his thanks to passengers for recognizing his dedicated service.
